The Kampong Cham Hospital Microbiology Laboratory began offering culture and antibiotic sensitivity services in 2009 after Larry Buck spent some time working with the staff to organize the lab.
Ph. Nhem Somary is the very dedicated chief of laboratory services in the KC Hospital. Ph. Nhem Somary and her staff have raised Cambodian phyisicans’ expectations for how a microbiology lab in a provincial hospital can significantly contribute to patient care.
This laboratory isolated over 92 strains of Vibrio cholerae during the 2010 outbreak. The lab has also made several isolations of Burkholderia pseudomallei and recently an isloation of Streptococcus suis, an important emerging pathogen.
