I visited the Takeo microbiology lab on Friday, January 22, 2011. The lab is now in great shape and ready for the VIDA volunteer to arrive in February and get the lab organized to being offering routine culture and sensitivity in this 250 bed hospital. All equipment has been unpacked and installed. Dr. Te Vantha, the deputy director of the hospital and chief of the pediatric ward, is keen to see this lab operational. The Takeo Provincial Hospital has not had a routine diagnostic micro lab. A number of partners have contributed to making this lab a reality – the Fondation Merieux, the US CDC, WHO and the DMDP.
